Dive Brief:
- Amyris successfully auctioned off its JVN brand for $1.25 million, according to a Thursday court filing.
- The hair care brand — created by celebrity hairstylist Jonathan Van Ness — was auctioned off to Windsong Global. Windsong Global is also invested in brands such as Lilah B, Design Within Reach, Lime Crime, Algenist and more.
- Amyris also successfully auctioned off its Rose Inc brand (founded by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) for $2.5 million to AA Investments and Stripes (founded by Naomi Watts) for $500,000 to Sakana, per court filings on Friday. A hearing on the sale of these brands, as well as Pipette, will be held on Wednesday. Additionally, Quiet Logistics on Friday filed a limited objection to the JVN sale as it wants payment assurance related to its fulfillment services agreement.
Dive Insight:
Amyris’ latest brand auctions come just a few weeks after it agreed to sell off Pipette, Biossance, 4U and MenoLabs.
The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August with plans to auction off much of its portfolio as part of a restructuring. Many of Amyris’ brands were founded by celebrities and focused on the beauty and wellness industries. JVN was launched in 2021 and sold through its DTC channels as well as Sephora.
In an objection to the sale, Quiet Logistics protested the sale of JVN's warehouse inventory unless it receives payment for the fulfillment services it provides. The logistics company said it would file a similar objection for the sale of Rose Inc, which it also provides fulfillment services to. If the JVN sale is approved with the warehouse inventory excluded, Quiet Logistics said it would withdraw its objection.
Amyris CEO and President John Melo resigned after 16 years at the company in June, with CFO Han Kieftenbeld being appointed interim chief executive officer.
