Dive Brief:
-
Mobile same-day pickup app Curbside and Best Buy announced a partnership with several Best Buy locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
-
Curbside allows users to shop from its app at participating retailers, then pick up their goods at the store without getting out of the car.
-
Curbside also works with Bay Area Target stores and several retailers at the Westfield Oakridge mall in San Jose.
Dive Insight:
Curbside, with $8 million in Series A funding, is mainly running pilot programs in the Bay Area. But it’s doing well, according to founder and CEO Jaron Waldman, with business remaining steady even after the holiday rush.
More than half (55%) of shoppers who’ve tried Curbside use it again, Waldman says. And the clientele and product mix have expanded beyond its initial base of harried parents with babies in the car in need of diapers, he says. Curbside also differs from startups of this ilk because it has its own employees, who receive hourly pay plus benefits.
