Dive Brief:
-
Former Target SVP of store operations Bryan Everett is joining Rite Aid as EVP of store operations at the company.
-
Everett, who left Target last month, had been instrumental in introducing smaller more urban Targets and in overseeing the retailer’s pharmacies and clinics.
-
He replaces Bob Thompson, who has announced his retirement.
Dive Insight:
With CVS Health soon to take on Target’s pharmacies and clinics as stores within stores, and with CEO Brian changing up the leadership ranks, Everett’s move makes a lot of sense. Meanwhile, Rite Aid, which already by and large runs stores at the scale of Target's smaller stores, can tap Everett's expertise in streamlining store operations.
His experience overseeing Target's pharmacies and clinics will also be put to good use. Rite Aid continues to make its own moves in the health care services sector, into which it and other drugstore retailers are quickly expanding thanks to growing opportunities created by the Affordable Care Act. CVS Health, Rite Aid, Walgreens and others are investing heavily in pharmacy supply chain and expertise and offering customers clincal health services well beyond traditional goods and services like vaccines, blood pressure screenings, and health and beauty products.
