The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Computer Emergency Readiness Team Thursday issued a 10-page warning about malware dubbed “Backoff” affecting point-of-sale computer systems.

The malware is related to point-of-sale malware identified last October that has been detected as recently as July. It’s capable of “scraping memory for track data, logging keystrokes, command & control (C2) communication, and injecting malicious stub into explorer.exe,” according to the report.

The malware can help hackers access data that includes consumers names, financial information, and personal information.
