A U.S. court has granted Temu preliminary injunctions against phishing websites that were impersonating the popular e-commerce platform. This marks a victory in Temu’s legal efforts to shield consumers from shopping scams.
The Boston-based online marketplace recently initiated legal action against over 50 fraudulent websites in the U.S. and Europe. These sites were accused of mimicking Temu, infringing on its trademarks, offering counterfeit Temu coupons, blind boxes, and pallets, and engaging in phishing and online fraud activities. According to Temu’s complaint, these scam websites also lure users into clicking on downloads that collect personal information, install malware, and infiltrate their devices.
The U.S. District Court for Arizona issued these preliminary injunctions against the defendants between November 20 and 22.
“Temu will continue to fight for the rights of consumers, ensuring their safety against the predatory tactics of scam sites. We will not let up in our efforts to hold scammers who impersonate us and cheat consumers to account,” said a spokesperson for Temu. “At the same time, we also urge consumers to support our efforts by reporting fraudulent activities they encounter, and to exercise care and shop only on our official website and apps.”
Launched in the U.S. in September 2022, Temu has swiftly expanded, attracting shoppers across various income brackets with its extensive selection of quality, affordable general merchandise. According to third-party research, Temu ranks among the world's most downloaded shopping apps. It serves customers in 48 markets spanning North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia.
