eBay's North America chief to depart

Dive Brief:

  • EBay SVP for North America Christopher Payne will depart by year’s end and the company is seeking his replacement, Re/Code confirmed Wednesday.

  • Payne has been at eBay since 2009 when the marketplace acquired his company Positronic and has been SVP for North America for four years.

  • Payne also spent 13 years working for Microsoft and three years at Amazon. Word is he is leaving eBay to pursue other business opportunities. 

Dive Insight:

eBay has had a tough year, coming to the decision to split off its PayPal business after a long battle against the idea, losing key people, and suffering a significant hack. There’s more unsettlement to come with changes required by the PayPal spinoff.
