Welcome to The Backroom, a window into what goes on behind the scenes as the Retail Dive team covers the stories and trends reshaping retail. You can check out all our podcast episodes (past and present) here and listen on Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio and Spotify.
The first half of the year has passed and many companies have reported their second-quarter results. A roundup of direct-to-consumer’s biggest brands presents a mixed bag of earnings, with some doing better than ever while others attempt to enact transformation plans.
Brands such as On and Canada Goose – which reported revenue jumped year over year by double digits – have been focused on growing DTC channels. Meanwhile, Olaplex saw DTC sales drop and Grove Collaborative named a new CEO amid declining sales.
Regardless of how well certain companies did during the latest quarter, the stage is now set for the back half of the year with the ever-important holidays approaching. The team talks about themes from DTC earnings in Q2, how they compare to mass retail and what’s to be expected as the year progresses.
